Learning Support Assistant – ASD Specialist Resource Base

Location: Llandeilo

Are you passionate about supporting children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN), particularly Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)? We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work within a specialist ASD resource base attached to a mainstream setting in Llandeilo.

About the Role

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of ASC needs, from those requiring 1:1 tailored support to others working within small group provision .

Each learner presents a unique profile, including differences in:

• Communication ️
• Sensory processing
• Emotional regulation
• Social interaction

The resource base provides a nurturing, structured, and supportive environment, enabling pupils to build independence, confidence, and essential life skills, alongside accessing aspects of the mainstream curriculum where appropriate.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide individualised 1:1 support and facilitate small group activities
• Use adapted communication strategies (visual aids, PECS, structured routines) ️
• Support pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour, using calm, consistent approaches
• Work closely with teaching staff to implement IDP/EHCP targets
• Encourage independence, engagement, and inclusion
• Support smooth transitions throughout the school day

⏰ What a Typical Day Might Look Like

No two days are the same, but you can expect to:

• Welcome pupils and support with their morning routine and settling in ☀️
• Assist with structured learning sessions, breaking tasks into manageable steps
• Use visual timetables and sensory strategies to aid transitions
• Facilitate social interaction and play opportunities
• Support pupils with sensory or movement breaks when needed
• Help manage behaviour positively and promote emotional wellbeing
• Work closely with teachers and staff to review and adapt support strategies

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

• Has experience with ASC or ALN (desirable, not essential)
• Is empathetic, resilient, and calm under pressure
• Can support both 1:1 and group learning
• Has strong communication and teamwork skills
• Is proactive, flexible, and passionate about supporting young people

✅ Requirements

• Enhanced DBS (Child Only) on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain)
• EWC Registration (or willingness to obtain)
