Job description

KS2–KS3 SEMH Teacher – Permanent Opportunity in Shaftesbury

Location: Shaftesbury
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Start: October 2026
Focus: KS2–KS3 / SEND / SEMH

Ready for Something Beyond Mainstream Teaching?

Teaching Personnel is searching for an experienced KS2–KS3 SEMH Teacher to join a specialist provision in Shaftesbury permanently from October 2026.

The wider setting educates pupils aged 5–19 with SEMH, autism and associated needs. Teaching is adapted around each pupil's developmental stage and individual circumstances rather than simply their chronological age.

For the right teacher, this is an opportunity to rediscover the impact you can have when relationships and individual progress sit at the centre of learning.

Your Role

You will plan and deliver engaging lessons for pupils across the KS2–KS3 range, adapting teaching for learners who may have experienced significant barriers to education.

  • Delivering creative and accessible lessons
  • Differentiating learning around individual needs
  • Establishing clear routines and expectations
  • Supporting pupils with SEMH and additional needs
  • Managing challenging behaviour confidently
  • Working collaboratively with support and therapeutic staff
  • Recognising academic, emotional and social progress

The provision uses a therapeutic, relationship-led approach and works with specialist professionals including speech and language, occupational therapy and educational psychology.

The Teacher We Need

This school needs an educator with strong classroom experience who can come in and hit the ground running.

You should be calm under pressure, creative with your teaching and confident adapting when a lesson does not go to plan. Most importantly, you need to see the potential behind the behaviour.

Experience within SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or challenging educational environments would be highly valuable.

Teaching Personnel Benefits

  • Dedicated SEND consultant
  • Competitive weekly pay
  • CPD and training opportunities
  • Support throughout your placement
  • Access to specialist education opportunities
  • Refer-a-friend scheme
  • Guidance through the permanent recruitment process
