Job description
A Key Stage 1 Teacher is required for a full-time role starting after the Easter break, working through Teaching Personnel in a one-form entry primary school that we are proudly partnered with.
As a KS1 class teacher in a one-form entry school you will be responsible for planning and teaching the full curriculum, assessing pupils, supporting phonics and early reading, managing behaviour, communicating with parents, supporting SEND, and contributing to the wider school community.
The role is due to start in summer term (13th April) and will be via Teaching Personnel intially, with the prospect of a permanent role for the right person.
The main responsibility is delivering high-quality lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
Key duties include:
- Planning engaging, differentiated lessons in core and foundation subjects.
- Teaching English, maths, phonics, science, and wider curriculum subjects.
- Adapting teaching to meet different learning needs and abilities.
- Creating a positive, safe classroom environment.
- Supporting pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development.
In KS1, there is also strong emphasis on:
- Early reading and phonics instruction.
- Play-based and practical learning approaches.
Assessment and Tracking Progress
Teachers must monitor and evaluate pupils’ progress.
Typical responsibilities:
- Carrying out formative and summative assessments.
- Preparing pupils for statutory assessments such as the KS1 SATs.
- Tracking attainment using school data systems.
- Identifying pupils who need intervention or additional support.
- Writing termly reports for parents.
Phonics and Early Reading
A major KS1 focus is phonics.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching systematic phonics through programmes such as Read Write Inc., Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, or similar.
- Preparing Year 1 pupils for the Phonics Screening Check.
- Supporting reading development through guided reading and individual reading.
Classroom and Behaviour Management
Teachers must maintain a structured learning environment.
This includes:
- Establishing classroom routines and expectations.
- Managing behaviour using the school behaviour policy.
- Promoting respect, kindness, and independence.
- Supporting pupils with emotional or behavioural needs.
Supporting SEND and Inclusion
Teachers must ensure all pupils can access learning.
Key tasks:
- Identifying pupils with possible special educational needs.
- Working with the school Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
- Implementing individual support plans or interventions.
- Differentiating work for pupils with SEND or EAL.
Working With Teaching Assistants
In a one-form entry school, the teacher usually directs a Teaching Assistant (TA).
Responsibilities include:
- Planning how the TA supports lessons.
- Running small-group interventions.
- Ensuring support staff understand lesson objectives.
Communication With Parents
KS1 teachers build strong partnerships with families.
This involves:
- Talking with parents at drop-off/pick-up or scheduled meetings.
- Running parent consultations evenings.
- Communicating concerns or progress updates.
- Providing home learning guidance.
Wider School Responsibilities
Because a one-form entry school has fewer staff, teachers often take on additional roles.
Examples:
- Leading or supporting a subject area (e.g., phonics lead, PE lead).
- Attending staff meetings and training (CPD).
- Supporting school trips, assemblies, and events.
- Contributing to school improvement priorities.
Safeguarding and Pastoral Care
All teachers must follow safeguarding procedures.
This includes:
- Being vigilant about signs of risk or harm.
- Following policies aligned with Keeping Children Safe in Education.
- Recording and reporting concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
