Job description

Inclusion & Behaviour Mentor – Primary Phase
Bishop Auckland, County Durham

Full-time | Term Time Only | Start Date: September 2026

Do you have the drive to transform behaviour and build strong, positive relationships with children? We are recruiting an Inclusion & Behaviour Mentor to join a dynamic primary school in Bishop Auckland, supporting pupils to overcome barriers and succeed in the classroom.

About the Role:
This is a proactive, hands-on role focused on early intervention and inclusion. You will work across the school to support pupils at risk of disengagement, helping them develop self-regulation skills, resilience, and positive attitudes to learning. You will be a key figure in promoting a consistent behaviour culture across the school.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Acting as a behaviour mentor for targeted pupils across KS1 and KS2
  • Leading short-term intervention programmes focused on behaviour and wellbeing
  • Supporting transitions into school and between year groups
  • Working alongside staff to embed consistent behaviour expectations
  • Providing in-the-moment support to de-escalate situations and prevent disruption
  • Tracking and reviewing progress of pupils receiving support

We’re Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience working with children with SEMH or behavioural needs
  • Is confident, approachable, and able to build respect with pupils
  • Has a solution-focused mindset and remains calm under pressure
  • Can adapt strategies to meet individual pupil needs
  • Is committed to inclusion and removing barriers to learning
  • Has strong communication skills and works well with staff and families

What Makes This Role Different:

  • A varied role working across the whole school, not tied to one classroom
  • Opportunities to lead small interventions and influence whole-school practice
  • A strong focus on early intervention rather than reactive support
  • The chance to be a key part of the school’s inclusion strategy

We Offer:

  • A motivated and supportive team environment
  • Ongoing professional development in behaviour and inclusion
  • A school committed to staff wellbeing and professional growth
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to pupils’ school experience

How to Apply:
Please complete an application form and include a supporting statement outlining your experience and approach to behaviour support.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
