About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and reflective History Teacher who believes that understanding the past is essential to shaping thoughtful, informed citizens of the future. This role is perfect for an educator who can transform dates and documents into compelling narratives, debates, and investigations—helping students ask not only what happened, but why it matters today.

You will foster curiosity, critical thinking, and historical empathy, guiding students to explore diverse perspectives, challenge assumptions, and develop the analytical skills needed both inside and beyond the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous History lessons across Key Stages [3/4/5 as applicable], aligned with national curriculum and examination specifications.

  • Bring historical periods, events, and individuals to life through storytelling, debate, source analysis, role play, and independent enquiry.

  • Teach students how to evaluate evidence, interpret sources, construct arguments, and write with clarity and precision.

  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND and EAL students.

Assessment & Progress

  • Assess student learning through a range of formative and summative methods.

  • Provide high-quality feedback that supports progress, resilience, and exam success.

  • Use assessment data to inform planning, intervention, and curriculum development.

Curriculum & Enrichment

  • Contribute to the design and continual improvement of a rich, inclusive, and challenging History curriculum.

  • Ensure a balance of political, social, cultural, and global history, reflecting diverse voices and experiences.

  • Support and lead enrichment activities such as history clubs, trips to museums and historical sites, guest lectures, and commemorative events.

Pastoral & Professional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a form tutor or pastoral mentor, supporting students’ academic and personal development.

  • Promote high standards of behaviour, curiosity, and respect for differing viewpoints.

  • Work collaboratively within the Humanities department and wider school community.

  • Engage in professional development and contribute to whole-school initiatives.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • A degree in History or a closely related discipline.

  • Strong subject knowledge and a genuine passion for History education.

  • Ability to inspire students and create a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom management skills.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching History at GCSE and/or A-Level.

  • A commitment to inclusive and decolonised curriculum approaches.

  • Confidence using digital tools, archives, and historical databases.
