Job description

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated, resilient and adaptable Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve positive outcomes.

The Role

As a HLTA within a PRU setting, you will:

  • Deliver engaging small‑group and 1:1 learning sessions
  • Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Lead lessons in the absence of a teacher and follow tailored schemes of work
  • Implement behaviour‑support strategies and de‑escalation techniques
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and external professionals
  • Help create a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced working with challenging behaviour or SEMH (school or care backgrounds welcome)
  • Confident leading learning and supporting differentiated activities
  • Patient, emotionally resilient and able to build positive relationships
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and committed to improving pupil outcomes
  • Qualified at HLTA level or experienced as a Senior Teaching Assistant/Unqualified Teacher

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
