Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 per annum (M1–UPS3) + TLR
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and talented English specialist to join a forward-thinking secondary school in Bournemouth as Head of English.
This role is ideal for an experienced teacher ready to step into leadership, or an established Head of Department looking for a new challenge in a supportive and progressive environment.
About the Role
As Head of English, you will lead a dedicated and collaborative department, driving high standards of teaching and learning across Key Stages 3–5. You will play a central role in shaping the curriculum, raising attainment, and contributing to whole-school improvement strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the English department, ensuring high-quality teaching and outcomes
- Develop and implement an engaging and ambitious English curriculum
- Monitor student progress and implement strategies to support achievement
- Support and develop staff through coaching and professional development
- Contribute to whole-school teaching and learning initiatives

The Ideal Candidate
- A qualified teacher of English with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- A strong track record of success in the classroom
- Experience in leading or supporting a department (or readiness to step up)

- Committed to continuous professional development and school improvement
