Job Description

We seek a dedicated and enthusiastic Geography Teacher to deliver high-quality education to students in line with the national curriculum. The successful candidate will plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and understanding of geographical concepts, processes and issues. This role requires fostering a positive learning environment that supports student growth, assessment and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive Geography lessons that meet curriculum objectives and cater to diverse learning needs.
  • Create and implement schemes of work and lesson plans that promote student engagement and understanding.
  • Assess, monitor and record pupil progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and support to aid improvement.
  • Prepare students for internal and external examinations, ensuring they are fully equipped to succeed.
  • Utilise a variety of teaching methods and resources, including fieldwork, to enhance learning experiences.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and stimulating classroom environment that encourages positive behaviour and mutual respect.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, training sessions and school events as required.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress and pastoral matters.
  • Keep up to date with developments in geography education and incorporate best practises into teaching.

Required Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • A degree in Geography or a closely related subject.

Education

  • Undergraduate degree specialising in Geography or an allied discipline.
  • Completed teacher training with a focus on secondary education.

Experience

  • Proven experience teaching Geography at secondary school level.
  • Experience in planning and delivering lessons in accordance with the national curriculum.
  • Familiarity with assessment procedures and examination preparation.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong subject knowledge in physical and human geography.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students of varying abilities.
  • Proficient in the use of educational technology and digital resources.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to manage time and workload effectively.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in delivering fieldwork and outdoor learning activities.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Geography or Education.
  • Knowledge of recent educational initiatives and changes in geography teaching.

Working Conditions

  • Work primarily takes place within a school environment.
  • Occasional requirements to supervise or accompany students on educational trips and fieldwork.
  • Standard school hours with occasional requirements to attend evening meetings or events.
  • Interaction with students, parents, colleagues and school management on a daily basis.
  • The role involves standing for extended periods and preparing teaching materials outside of classroom time.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
