Job Description
This role involves delivering high-quality geography teaching to students in accordance with the national curriculum and school guidelines. The post-holder plans and prepares engaging lessons that develop students’ understanding of physical and human geography, environmental issues, and geographical skills. The teacher assesses student progress regularly and provides constructive feedback to support learning and development. The role requires fostering a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and respect for diverse perspectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver lessons that meet the curriculum requirements and accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to enhance student engagement and understanding.
- Assess and monitor student progress, maintaining accurate records and reporting outcomes as required.
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment.
- Support students’ personal development, encouraging independent learning and critical analysis of geographical issues.
- Contribute to the development and review of the geography curriculum to ensure it remains relevant and challenging.
- Participate in departmental meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and promote student welfare at all times.
Required Qualifications
- A recognised teaching qualification suitable for the United Kingdom education system.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Geography or a closely related subject.
Education
- Degree in Geography or related discipline from a recognised institution.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification.
Experience
- Proven experience of teaching geography at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 levels within a secondary school setting.
- Experience in planning and delivering engaging lessons that meet diverse student needs.
- Familiarity with assessment procedures and tracking student progress.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong subject knowledge of physical and human geography, including contemporary environmental issues.
- Effective classroom management and behaviour management techniques.
- Ability to use educational technology and digital resources to support teaching and learning.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of students.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience of teaching geography at A Level or equivalent.
- Additional training or qualifications in special educational needs or inclusion.
- Continued professional development in teaching strategies or subject knowledge.
Working Conditions
- The role is full-time and based at a school in Oxford, Oxfordshire.
- Typical working hours are Monday to Friday during term time, with occasional requirements for evening or weekend activities related to school events.
- The position involves classroom teaching, preparation of lesson materials, marking, and participation in departmental and school meetings.
- The post-holder works in a busy school environment and may be required to support extracurricular activities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
