Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a specialist Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) provision that supports pupils who require a highly structured, predictable, and low‑arousal learning environment . The setting caters for pupils across a range of age groups and supports learners with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), many of whom have additional communication needs, sensory processing differences, and associated learning needs.
The provision is designed to meet the needs of pupils who benefit from clear routines, consistent support, visual structures, and personalised learning approaches . Staff take a calm, patient, and understanding approach, focusing on emotional regulation, communication, independence, and positive engagement. We are seeking flexible supply Teaching Assistants who are passionate about autism support and committed to creating a safe and supportive space where pupils can thrive.
About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant within this specialist ASD setting, you will support pupils to access learning in a way that meets their individual needs. Pupils may have communication challenges, sensory sensitivities, anxiety, and difficulties with social interaction, and may require consistent adult support to navigate the school day.
Support may be provided on a 1:1 basis or within small groups, with a strong emphasis on structure, routine, and relationship‑building.
✅ Key Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) throughout the school day
- Assisting with learning activities tailored to individual needs, EHCPs, and support plans
- ️ Supporting communication using verbal, visual, and alternative communication methods
- Helping pupils to regulate emotions and manage sensory needs
- Following structured routines and implementing personalised strategies
- Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals
- ️ Supporting safeguarding, wellbeing, and positive behaviour through consistency and care
- Maintaining a calm, patient, and understanding approach at all times
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you must:
- Hold an Enhanced DBS (Child Workforce) registered to the Update Service or be willing to obtain one through Teaching Personnel
- Be registered with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) or willing to obtain registration
- Have experience with, or a strong interest in, Autism / ASD‑specific support
- Be patient, adaptable, and confident working within a structured SEN environment
- Be reliable, flexible, and professional
- Be able to maintain consistent communication with your Teaching Personnel consultant

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
