English Teacher (Maternity Cover)
Location: Worthing
Start Date: 1st June 2026
Contract: 9–12 Months (Maternity Cover)
Setting: Alternative Provision (SEMH), Secondary Pupils
We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient English Teacher to join an alternative provision in Worthing on a maternity cover basis, starting after May half term.
This setting supports secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom have struggled to engage in mainstream education. The role requires a strong, adaptable teacher who can build positive relationships and create a supportive, structured learning environment.
The Role:
- Deliver engaging English lessons tailored to a range of abilities and needs
- Support pupils with SEMH needs, encouraging both academic and personal development
- Manage behaviour positively and effectively in line with the school’s ethos
- Work closely with a small, supportive team and contribute to a nurturing environment
The Ideal Candidate Will:
- Be a qualified English Teacher (QTS or equivalent)
- Have experience working with secondary pupils
- Have a strong understanding of SEMH needs or a genuine interest in this area
- Be patient, resilient, and passionate about making a difference
- Be confident in managing behaviour and building rapport with pupils

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
