English Teacher
Job description
Are you a passionate English Teacher looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference every day?
We are seeking dedicated and resilient English Teachers to join specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) schools, supporting young people who require a more personalised and therapeutic approach to education.
This is an opportunity to continue teaching English up to GCSE level whilst playing a pivotal role in helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and achieve outcomes they may never have thought possible.
The Role
As an English Teacher within an SEMH setting, you will:
- Deliver engaging and creative English lessons up to GCSE level
- Adapt learning to meet the individual needs of students
- Foster positive relationships that encourage trust and engagement
- Support students with social, emotional and behavioural challenges
- Create a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment
- Monitor progress and celebrate achievements, both academic and personal
- Work collaboratively with support staff, pastoral teams and external professionals
Why SEMH Education?
Teaching in an SEMH school is about more than academic progress. It's about helping young people re-engage with education, develop self-belief, and recognise their potential.
Many students have experienced significant challenges in their educational journey and require teachers who are patient, understanding, and committed to helping them succeed.
You'll still be delivering the English curriculum and preparing students for GCSE examinations, but you'll have the opportunity to teach in smaller classes where relationship-building and individual progress are at the heart of everything you do.
What We're Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Experience teaching English to secondary-aged students
- Strong knowledge of the English curriculum and GCSE specifications
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Resilience, empathy and a solution-focused approach
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
- Experience within SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or mainstream settings is welcomed
What You'll Receive
- Smaller class sizes and increased student support
- The opportunity to make a lasting impact on young people's lives
- Ongoing professional development and specialist training
- Supportive leadership teams and multidisciplinary staff
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- A rewarding role where every success, no matter how small, is celebrated
If you're an English Teacher who believes that every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their challenges, we'd love to hear from you.
