Salary: £52,026 – £58,857 (FTE)
Pay Scale: Lead Practitioner L1–L6
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of a large, inclusive secondary academy seeking an exceptional Lead Practitioner in English to help strengthen teaching and learning so that every young person can thrive.

This is a high‑impact role focused on modelling exemplary classroom practice, developing colleagues, and using research‑informed approaches to improve outcomes across the English department and the wider school. Working closely with subject and senior leaders, you will play a central role in coaching, professional development, and the strategic improvement of teaching and learning.

Applications are welcomed from existing Lead Practitioners, as well as experienced teachers ready to work towards Lead Practitioner accreditation, with appropriate support provided.


The Role: Lead Practitioner in English

As Lead Practitioner in English, you will be a visible model of outstanding practice, supporting colleagues to continually refine their teaching and remove barriers to learning.

You will contribute to whole‑school improvement by leading training, mentoring staff, and helping embed a strong culture of collaboration, reflection, and high expectations.


What You Will Do

  • Model consistently high‑quality English teaching across the academy
  • Develop high‑quality teaching materials, training, and improvement strategies
  • Lead coaching, mentoring, and professional development, including observation and feedback
  • Use data intelligently to identify priorities, shape interventions, and evaluate impact
  • Contribute to monitoring, self‑evaluation, and school improvement planning
  • Stay informed about educational research and best practice, supporting colleagues to apply this effectively
  • Work collaboratively with middle and senior leaders to raise standards across English and beyond

What We’re Looking For

  • An outstanding English practitioner with a strong track record of impact
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting teacher development
  • Secure understanding of research‑informed pedagogy and curriculum design
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to influence practice beyond your own classroom
  • Commitment to high expectations, inclusion, and continuous improvement
  • Either accredited as a Lead Practitioner or ready to work towards accreditation with support

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
