Job description

English Teacher – Secondary School (Bury)

A secondary school in Bury, Greater Manchester is seeking to appoint a dedicated and highly motivated Teacher of English to join its established department from September 2026. This is a full-time position offered on a permanent basis (or long-term, depending on candidate preference), with salary in line with the Main or Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS), dependent on experience.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, with Key Stage 5 teaching available where appropriate. You will be expected to plan and deliver engaging and challenging lessons that foster a love of literature and language, while supporting students in developing strong analytical, written, and communication skills. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering engaging and effective lessons across KS3 and KS4 (KS5 desirable)
  • Planning, preparing, and assessing work in line with the national curriculum
  • Monitoring and supporting student progress to ensure strong outcomes
  • Maintaining high standards of behaviour and classroom management
  • Contributing to departmental planning and the wider life of the school

The school is looking to appoint a teacher who holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in the UK, which is essential, alongside a relevant degree in English or a closely related subject.
