English Literature Students – Primary School Literacy Support Roles in Stockton-on-Tees & Surrounding Areas
Are you an English Literature student or graduate passionate about language, storytelling, and inspiring young readers? We are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated English Literature students or graduates to support pupils in primary schools across Stockton-on-Tees and the surrounding areas.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on classroom experience while helping children develop essential reading and writing skills — perfect for those considering careers in education, publishing, speech and language, or literacy support.
Location: Stockton-on-Tees & surrounding areas
Position: English Literature Student / Graduate – Primary School Literacy Support
Start Date: After Easter Half Term
Pay: £90–£100 per day (depending on role)
Shifts: Flexible – full-time or part-time available
About the Role:

Support pupils in developing reading, writing, and comprehension skills
-
Work one-to-one or with small groups to improve literacy attainment
-
Help children with phonics, spelling, grammar, and creative writing tasks
-
Encourage a love of books and storytelling
-
Support guided reading sessions and classroom literacy activities
-
Assist teachers in delivering engaging English lessons
-
Help create a positive, inclusive, and language-rich learning environment
What We’re Looking For:
-
English Literature students or graduates (or related degrees such as English Language)
-
A passion for reading, writing, and promoting literacy
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills
-
A patient, supportive, and enthusiastic approach
-
Experience working with children is beneficial but not essential
This is an excellent opportunity for English Literature students or graduates looking for flexible and rewarding work in primary schools, while making a real difference in helping children build confidence in reading and writing.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
