Job description

Engagement Mentor | Specialist SEND School | Hailsham

Help pupils find their way back into learning.

Some young people don't need more consequences.

They need the right person.

A specialist SEND school in the Hailsham area is looking to appoint an Engagement Mentor to join its specialist Pathways provision from September.

This isn't a traditional classroom role.

You'll be working with pupils who are finding it difficult to engage with learning within the classroom environment, supporting them to regulate, rebuild confidence and successfully reintegrate into lessons when they're ready.

It's a role built on patience, consistency and relationships.

The Role

Working within the school's specialist intervention provision, you'll:

  • Build positive relationships with pupils experiencing barriers to learning
  • Support emotional regulation and engagement
  • Encourage positive behaviour and resilience
  • Help pupils transition successfully back into mainstream classroom learning
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support

No two days will be the same, but every day offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference.

We're Looking For Someone Who

  • Builds trust naturally
  • Remains calm under pressure
  • Understands behaviour as communication
  • Is patient, resilient and emotionally consistent
  • Wants to support young people to succeed

Experience within SEND or SEMH is advantageous, though backgrounds in youth work, mentoring, coaching, care or education are equally valued.

Practical Information

  • Full-time position (Monday-Friday)
  • Hailsham area
  • September start
  • £92.60 per day
  • Child-only enhanced DBS on the Update Service required

As part of our safeguarding process, we'll also require references covering a total of 24 months of employment history where possible, alongside a full employment and education history.
