Nursery Teaching Assistant – September Start

Location: Chester-le-Street & Surrounding Areas
Start Date: September 2026
Contract: Flexible supply work across multiple nursery and primary school settings
Agency: Teaching Personnel
Travel: Access to transport desirable due to potential travel between schools


About the Role

Teaching Personnel are seeking a caring, enthusiastic, and nurturing Nursery Teaching Assistant to support Early Years pupils in Chester-le-Street from September.
This role may involve placements across multiple nursery classes or Early Years units, depending on school demand at the time, offering you the chance to gain varied experience and build strong relationships within local settings.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about Early Years education and looking for flexible, rewarding work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support children aged 3–5 in line with the EYFS framework.
  • Assist the class teacher with daily routines and activities.
  • Lead small group play and learning sessions to promote development.
  • Support with phonics, early number skills, communication, and social development.
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.
  • Assist with personal care routines as required.
  • Build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents/carers.

✅ Key Requirements

  • Ideally a Level 2 or 3 Early Years / Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience working within EYFS, nursery, or preschool settings is highly desirable.
  • A patient, caring, and child-centred approach.
  • A strong understanding of early childhood development.
  • Flexibility to work across a number of schools depending on demand.
  • An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
