Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Drama Teacher to join an educational institution in Berkshire on a full-time contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality drama education, fostering creativity, and encouraging students to develop their confidence and communication skills through performance and theatrical studies. The role requires a proactive approach to teaching, strong classroom management, and the ability to inspire students of varying abilities and backgrounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging drama lessons in line with the curriculum and educational standards.
- Develop lesson plans that accommodate different learning styles and abilities, ensuring all students are supported and challenged appropriately.
- Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to stimulate interest and promote active participation.
- Assess, monitor, and record students’ progress, providing constructive feedback to support development.
- Organise and supervise rehearsals, performances, and other extracurricular drama activities.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate drama across other areas of the curriculum where appropriate.
- Engage with parents and guardians to communicate students’ progress and achievements.
- Stay up to date with developments in drama education and participate in relevant professional development activities.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of school productions and special events.
Required Qualifications
- Recognised teaching qualification suitable for the educational sector.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Drama, Theatre Studies, Performing Arts, or a related discipline.
Education
- Completion of secondary education to at least A-level standard or equivalent.
- Evidence of continuous professional development in drama education or teaching methodologies.
Experience
- Proven experience teaching drama within a school or educational setting.
- Experience in planning and delivering lessons that engage and motivate students.
- Experience directing or organising school drama productions or performances is desirable.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of drama theory, theatre history, and performance techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Ability to assess student progress and adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
- Creative and innovative approach to teaching drama.
- Organisational skills to manage rehearsals, performances, and administrative duties.
- Competence in using educational technology and digital resources to enhance learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Drama Education or a related field.
- Experience working with diverse student populations.
Working Conditions
- Full-time contract role based in a school or educational setting in Berkshire.
- Working hours align with the standard school day, with occasional evening or weekend commitments for performances or events.
- Work involves standing for extended periods and engaging in active demonstrations or performances.
- Potential requirement to work in various indoor and outdoor locations within the school premises.
- Collaboration with colleagues and participation in staff meetings and training sessions.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
