About the Role

A secondary school in MK8 is seeking an innovative and passionate Design & Technology Teacher to inspire the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

As a Design & Technology Teacher at this Secondary school, you will:

  • Deliver dynamic lessons that bring the design process to life, fostering a creative and hands-on learning environment where innovation is celebrated.
  • Guide students through practical projects across a variety of specialisms, including Resistant Materials, Textiles, Food & Nutrition, and Engineering.
  • Implement diverse teaching methods that support students in mastering design theory and applying it in practical contexts.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a supportive team to deliver an engaging and enriching curriculum tailored to all learners.

This school is an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ secondary school situated on the western edge of Milton Keynes, serving the Whitehouse and Fairfields communities. Since opening in September 2020, the school has quickly established itself as a vibrant and ambitious learning environment for students aged 11–18.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging and innovative Design & Technology lessons.
  • Teach across a range of DT disciplines, adapting to departmental strengths and student needs.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress and attainment.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating workshop/classroom environment.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.
  • Support students’ personal development, including potential Form Tutor responsibilities.
  • Encourage participation in extracurricular and enrichment activities.


Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • A degree in Design & Technology or a related subject.
  • Experience teaching DT at secondary school level.
  • Strong practical skills across at least one DT specialism.
  • Excellent classroom management and organisational skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Ability to teach across multiple DT specialisms (e.g. Resistant Materials, Food, Textiles, Engineering).
  • Experience teaching GCSE and/or A-Level Design & Technology.
  • A track record of raising student attainment.
  • Experience contributing to extracurricular or enrichment programmes.
