Design and Technology Technician
(Reporting to the Head of Department)
Location: Wandsworth, London
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 4.30pm
Working Pattern: Term time only
Start Date: Monday 27 April
Contract: Fixed-term until 17 July 2026, with the potential to become permanent
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Design and Technology Technician to join our large, friendly and highly active Art and Design Technology Faculty. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive secondary school environment, offering vital practical and technical support across a range of creative disciplines.
You will be one of two technicians supporting teaching staff and students across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, helping to ensure the smooth, safe and effective running of DT workshops, classrooms and food rooms.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching staff in the delivery of the DT curriculum across Product Design, Graphics, Art Textiles and Food
- Provide practical support to students with coursework and project work
- Order, manage and maintain stock, materials, equipment and food ingredients
- Safely operate, maintain and monitor workshop tools and machinery, including:
- Laser cutter
- Scroll saws
- Band saw
- Vacuum former
- Maintain DT workshops, classrooms and kitchen areas to a high standard
- Ensure Health & Safety procedures and risk assessments are adhered to at all times
- Facilitate the secure storage and organisation of examination work
- Assist with the display and exhibition of student work
- Administer cover work for absent members of staff when required
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a proactive, organised and committed individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced educational environment. Ideally, you will have:
- Up-to-date Secondary Core Health & Safety certification (within the last 5 years)
- A degree and/or relevant industry experience in Design, Engineering, Art, Technology or a related field
- CAD/CAM proficiency
- The ability to multitask and prioritise effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate confidently with staff and students
- A collaborative and flexible approach to supporting a busy faculty
Previous experience in a school environment is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
