Behaviour Support Assistant – SEMH School (The Wirral)

A specialist SEMH school in The Wirral is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for students who have faced challenges in mainstream education. The school focuses on personalised support, helping students build emotional resilience, manage their behaviour, and achieve their full potential.

Role and Responsibilities:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting students with social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing trauma-informed approaches to create a safe and structured learning environment.

  • Providing one-to-one and group support to help students regulate their emotions and behaviour.

  • Building strong, trusting relationships to encourage student engagement and personal growth.

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to implement effective strategies.

  • Using positive behaviour management techniques to help students navigate daily challenges.

  • Encouraging and guiding students to achieve both academic and personal goals.

  • Monitoring student progress and adapting support strategies as needed.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience working with students with SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.

  • A trauma-informed approach to supporting vulnerable young people.

  • Patience, resilience, and empathy.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • The ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.

  • A proactive and positive attitude with a genuine passion for making a difference.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
