Job Title: Behaviour Teaching Assistant (Alternative Provision)
Location: Worthing
Contract Type: [Full-time / Part-time / Temporary / Permanent]

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join our alternative provision setting. This role involves supporting students who may have social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, behavioural challenges, or who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. You will play a key role in helping students re-engage with learning and develop positive behaviours for the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to promote engagement and learning
  • Implement behaviour management strategies consistently and effectively
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support emotional regulation
  • Assist the class teacher in delivering tailored learning activities
  • Monitor and record student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing
  • Support de-escalation of challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external professionals
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to set clear boundaries and remain consistent
  • A proactive and flexible attitude
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Team Teach, or similar) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
