Job Description
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team in Darlington. As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with challenging behaviour in an specialist educational setting.
Job Duties:
- Provide one-to-one support to students with challenging behaviour, both in the classroom and during extracurricular activities
- Implement behaviour management strategies and interventions as directed by the SENCO or teacher
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualised behaviour plans
- Support students in developing social and emotional skills
- Monitor and record students' behaviour and progress, providing regular feedback to the SENCO and teaching staff
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach to behaviour management
- Provide a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students
- Assist with the preparation and adaptation of learning materials
- Supervise students during breaks, lunchtimes, and outings
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics
Experience:
- Prior experience working with students with challenging behaviour, preferably in an educational or support setting
Knowledge and Skills:
- Understanding of behaviour management techniques and strategies
- Knowledge of special educational needs and inclusive practises
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Patience and empathy towards students with complex needs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Higher level qualification in Education, Psychology, or a related field
- Additional training in behaviour management or special educational needs
Working Conditions:
The Behaviour Support Assistant will primarily work within an educational environment. The role may require occasional travel to attend meetings or training sessions. The assistant will work full-time hours. The ability to work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of students is essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
