Behaviour Interventions Teaching Assistant – Carlisle

Full-Time Position
Competitive Pay – Weekly PAYE
Start Date: Immediate or As Soon As Possible

Teaching Personnel is seeking a confident, resilient, and proactive Behaviour Interventions Teaching Assistant to support pupils across a Carlisle primary school. This role is ideal for someone experienced in working with children who present behavioural, emotional, or social challenges and who is motivated by helping pupils make positive progress.

You will play a key part in delivering targeted interventions, supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups, and working alongside the school’s SEN and pastoral team to promote positive behaviour strategies.


The Role

  • Deliver structured behaviour and emotional regulation interventions
  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with identified behavioural needs
  • Work in line with the school’s behaviour policy and contribute to personalised support plans
  • Support pupils with focus, motivation, resilience, and classroom engagement
  • Work closely with the SENCo, class teachers, and pastoral staff to maintain consistent support
  • Model calm, supportive communication and de-escalation techniques
  • Help create a positive, safe learning environment that enables pupils to achieve their potential

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or additional barriers to learning
  • Is confident with behaviour management and building safe, trusting relationships
  • Can work proactively, adaptively, and with patience
  • Remains calm under pressure and can support children through emotional regulation
  • Works well as part of a wider support team
  • Is reliable, professional, and committed to pupil development
  • Has a background in education, youth work, social care, or similar (desirable but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
