We are recruiting a Behaviour & SEMH Teaching Assistant to work full time within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Carmarthen, supporting children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education due to social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.
This PRU delivers a trauma‑informed, person‑centred approach, providing pupils with the structure, consistency and relationships they need to re‑engage with learning and develop emotionally and socially.
About the Role
This role is ideal for someone who is calm, resilient and relationship‑focused. You will support pupils both in the classroom and through community‑based learning, working closely with teachers and pastoral staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing 1:1 and small‑group support
- Supporting personalised learning plans and interventions
- Helping pupils with emotional regulation and behaviour support
- Using restorative and de‑escalation strategies
- Supporting off‑site, outdoor and community activities
- Building consistent, trusting relationships with pupils
- Helping create a safe, nurturing and structured PRU environment
Who We’re Looking For
You will have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional needs, ideally within a PRU, alternative provision, SEN, youth work or care setting.
Essential skills and experience:
- Experience working with SEMH or behaviour‑led needs
- Calm, patient and resilient approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to set clear boundaries with empathy
- Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Additional requirements:
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to community‑based work)
- Relevant qualifications or experience (e.g. Teaching Assistant, CACHE, Health & Social Care, Youth Work, or similar)
- Willingness to complete enhanced DBS and vetting checks

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
