Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant (Secondary School Base) – Barry
Start Date: April 2026 | Placement Until July 2027
Pay: From £93 per day (annual pay progression every April)

We are seeking a dedicated Autism Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school base in Barry, working closely with pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and associated SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.
The Role
As an Autism Specialist TA, you will play a vital role in providing tailored, student-centred support both inside the base and across mainstream lessons. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is calm under pressure, proactive, and committed to inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support for a student with Autism
- Support academic learning across subjects up to GCSE level
- Liaise with mainstream teachers and departments to gather and adapt lesson materials
- Develop and maintain One Page Profiles and detailed weekly progress reports
- Work collaboratively with senior leaders within the base to implement strategies that enhance student performance and wellbeing
- Support students with anxiety, emotional regulation, and SEMH needs
- Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
✅ Essential Requirements
- Experience working with Autism / ASD (personal or professional)
- Strong understanding of the Autism Spectrum and individual learning needs
- Experience supporting students with SEMH and anxiety-related challenges
- Ability to support core subjects up to GCSE level
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage workload effectively
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
Desirable Skills & Keywords
Experience or familiarity with:
- Special Educational Needs (SEN) / SEND
- Behaviour support strategies
- Emotional regulation techniques
- Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
- Trauma-informed practice

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
