Art and Design Teacher
Job description
Art & Design Teacher – Durham Secondary School MPS/UPS £32,916 – £51,048 | Long-Term Supply | September 2026
Teaching Personnel is recruiting a qualified Art & Design Teacher for a long-term supply position at a secondary school in Durham, with a September 2026 start date.
Art & Design is a subject that gives students something few others can — a space to think creatively, express themselves, and develop a visual literacy that serves them well beyond school. The department is looking for a teacher who genuinely believes that, and who can deliver a broad, inspiring curriculum across KS3 and KS4 that stretches students of all abilities.
Whether your background leans toward fine art, graphic design, textiles, or a combination, you'll be expected to bring strong subject knowledge, confident classroom practice, and a genuine enthusiasm for the subject to the role from day one.
What you'll be responsible for:
Planning and delivering Art & Design lessons across KS3 and KS4 in line with the national curriculum. You'll support students in developing both practical skills and critical thinking, assess and monitor progress, maintain high standards of behaviour and studio management, and contribute to department displays, events, and wider school activities. Safeguarding responsibilities apply at all times.
To be considered:
- QTS or equivalent — essential
- A degree in Art & Design, Fine Art, Graphic Design, or a related creative discipline
- Proven experience teaching Art & Design at secondary level
- Strong practical subject knowledge across a range of media and techniques
- The ability to inspire students of all abilities and confidence levels
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
What Teaching Personnel offers:
- MPS/UPS salary — £32,916 to £51,048 depending on experience
- Weekly pay via PAYE
- Dedicated consultant support
- Free CPD and professional development
- Opportunities for permanent employment
