Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Start Date: September 2025
Pay Rate: £13.75 - £15.75 per hour
Location: Wigan, WN4
Contract: Full-time, Temporary (potential for permanent placement)
Teaching Personnel are currently supporting a welcoming primary school located near the A58 in Ashton-in-Makerfield, Wigan. The school is seeking a committed and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately. This role involves providing dedicated support to a pupil with additional learning needs and offers the opportunity to move into a permanent position from September.
The school prides itself on creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering individualised learning and emotional support throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one support for a pupil with specific educational needs, ensuring consistent and tailored guidance in line with their individual support plan.
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement and adapt resources and learning strategies.
- Encourage and facilitate engagement in lessons, helping the pupil to develop confidence, independence, and positive learning behaviours.
- Assist with classroom routines and contribute to a calm, positive learning environment.
- Monitor and report on the pupil’s progress and wellbeing.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience supporting children in an educational setting (particularly 1:1 support).
- A positive, patient, and proactive approach to supporting children with additional needs.
- A Child Workforce Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
- An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and inclusive education practices.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
