1:1 Teaching Assistant

  1. Autism
  2. Cardiff
Date posted : 09/09/26
  1. Full Time
£92.63 - 96.00 per day

Job description

We are looking for a kind, nurturing and patient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support an autistic pupil in a school in Cardiff Bay.

This is a very personal role, where building a trusting relationship with the pupil will be just as important as supporting them with their learning. We are looking for someone who is genuinely caring, calm and understanding, and who will take the time to get to know the child as an individual - their personality, interests, strengths, communication style and the things that help them to feel comfortable and secure.

The pupil will benefit from having someone alongside them who can provide consistent, reassuring and positive support throughout the school day. You will help them access their learning, take part in classroom activities and develop their confidence and independence, while also being there to support them when things feel overwhelming or difficult. You will work closely with the class teacher and other members of staff to make sure the pupil receives consistent support. This may include adapting activities, helping them to engage with lessons, encouraging communication and independence, supporting them during less structured parts of the day such as break and lunchtime, and helping them to develop positive social and emotional skills.

Experience working with autism or additional learning needs would be highly beneficial, although the right personality and approach are just as important as previous experience. We would particularly welcome applications from people who have worked as Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, SEN staff, support workers, youth workers, carers or in other caring or educational roles.

You may have experience working as a:

  • Teaching Assistant
  • Learning Support Assistant
  • SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Autism Support Worker
  • Behaviour Support Worker
  • Youth Worker
  • Residential Support Worker
  • Nursery Practitioner
  • Carer
