The school based in the Gosport area are seeking to employ a Cover Teacher to start in January. The school is considered to be a ‘good’ school where “staff combine their support to help every pupil achieve academically with kindness and care”.

Cover Supervisors/teachers are needed to cover a teachers short term absence from the classroom where the absence was not known about in advance. Pupils in these classes will carry out a pre-prepared exercise under supervision; no active teaching takes place.

The duties of a substitute teacher can be summarised as:

  • Supervising the work that has been set on the lesson plan provided, using the necessary resources that have also been provided.
  • Managing the behaviour of pupils in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
  • Responding to any questions that pupils might have about the process.
  • Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies in line with school policy and procedures.
  • Collecting any completed work at the end of the lesson and returning it to the teacher.
  • Reporting back as appropriate on any issues that arose during the lesson.

The role would be well suited to someone who is an already experienced cover supervisor looking a new exciting challenge, a learning support assistant seeking career progression or a teacher who is looking for a reduced teaching timetable. The school would also welcome applications from graduates who have a genuine desire to work in education and better the lives of the next generation of those who wish to progress to initial teacher training in the future.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
