Speech and Language Therapist

Permanent | 37 hours per week | 39 weeks per year (Term Time Only)
Salary: NHS Band 5–7 equivalent (dependent on experience)
Location: Basingstoke – across three school sites

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join a growing and forward-thinking school provision in Basingstoke. The service supports children and young people aged 5–18 years with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

This post offers the opportunity to work across three school sites, delivering a high-quality, pupil-centred therapy service as part of a collaborative multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting pupils to access learning, develop effective communication skills and achieve their full potential.


The Role

The Speech and Language Therapist will be instrumental in the establishment, development and delivery of an integrated speech and language therapy service across the academy. Key responsibilities include:

  • Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to develop and embed a speech and language therapy service that meets the diverse needs of pupils

  • Delivering specialist speech and language interventions in response to identified communication needs within educational settings

  • Supporting a holistic, integrated therapeutic approach by embedding communication strategies across the curriculum

  • Developing and delivering a continuing professional development (CPD) programme for school staff, aligned with the academy development plan

  • Providing training and guidance for staff and other communication partners to support pupils with SLCN

  • Contributing to a whole-school approach that supports a broad range of communication needs


About the Pupils

The role supports children and young people aged 5–18 whose speech, language and communication needs may impact learning, social interaction and emotional development. Pupils benefit from consistent, embedded therapeutic input throughout the school day, supported by close collaboration between education and therapy professionals.


Person Specification

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • A recognised professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy

  • Current HCPC registration and RCSLT membership

  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team supporting individuals with communication needs

  • Experience of contributing to or delivering training for communication partners supporting children with SLCN

  • Evidence of applying theoretical knowledge to clinical practice within educational or therapeutic settings
