SEN Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools
Location: Sheffield & Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only / Flexible
Start Date: ASAP or January 2026
About the Role
We are looking for a caring and motivated Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join our partner primary schools in Sheffield and Barnsley. This is a fantastic opportunity to work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning and reach their full potential.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a range of needs including autism (ASC), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional or behavioural needs. You’ll work alongside class teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with identified SEN or EHCPs.
- Assist teachers in planning and adapting activities to meet individual learning needs.
- Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and independence in the classroom.
- Help monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents.
- Foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and supported.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children in an educational or SEN support role (school, nursery, or care setting).
- Understanding of strategies for supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, or communication needs.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience).
- A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to working with children.
- An Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
