SEMH Teaching Assistant
Job description
A specialist secondary school in the Tameside, Manchester area is looking for a full-time teaching assistant to support within a KS3 classroom. The pupils within this school have varying additional needs and require specialist support, focusing mainly on SEMH strategies and interventions. An ideal candidate will have a strong background in complex needs and provide exceptional education and care for students that have multiple and profound learning difficulties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students with complex needs in a classroom setting
- Assist classroom staff with materials and resources
- Promote a supportive, nurturing and inclusive environment
- Monitor progress and providing feedback and adapting support where necessary
- Staffing support over lunch time periods
Requirements:
- Experience in working with challenging behaviours
- Understanding of social, emotional and behavioural needs
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Be nurturing, empathetic and patient
- Ability to work collaboratively with other members of staff
This role will be full-time and long term, working hours being 8:30am till 3:30pm

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
