SEMH Teaching Assistant

Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant   

 Location: Manchester City Centre                                                                                                        

About the Role:
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic team within a Secondary Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Manchester. This role is ideal for someone passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and structured environment. The young people you will be supporting are unable to access Mainstream education due to challenging behaviour, struggles with their mental health or Anxiety based school avoidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to support learning and emotional regulation.
  • Assist with behaviour management strategies to maintain a positive and safe learning environment.
  • Support the class teacher in delivering tailored lessons and adapting learning materials to meet individual needs.
  • Foster positive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and build trust.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting to teaching staff and SENCO as required.
  • Promote social and emotional development through structured activities
  • Contribute to individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or adults with SEMH needs
  • Strong behaviour management skills and resilience.
  • Ability to adapt learning materials and strategies to meet diverse needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Safeguarding training (provided by Teaching Personnel)
  • Employment references covering the last 24 months

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
