SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Burnley
Pay Rate: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour
Contract Type: Temp to Perm

Are you a passionate and resilient individual looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We are currently seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive alternative provision in Burnley. This rewarding role involves working with students who present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students on a one-to-one and small group basis, helping them to access learning and develop social skills.
  • Implement behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques as required.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent and structured support.
  • Help to create a positive, safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Encourage pupil engagement and monitor progress in both academic and personal development.
  • Provide feedback to teaching staff and contribute to student reports and support plans.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour.
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students.
  • A flexible and proactive attitude.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or a willingness to obtain one.

This is a temp to perm opportunity, offering a pathway to a permanent role for the right candidate. The working environment is supportive, with excellent staff development and training opportunities.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
