Behaviour Support Assistant – SEMH Secondary School (Manchester)
Location: Manchester
Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term

Do you have the confidence and resilience to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH Secondary School in Manchester. You will work with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional dysregulation. These pupils often display challenging behaviour, and your role will be crucial in helping them re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted behaviour support to pupils in and out of the classroom.
- Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Assist teachers in creating a safe, structured learning environment.
- Implement behaviour management strategies tailored to individual needs.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
- Monitor and record behaviour incidents, reporting to senior staff as required.
Candidate Requirements:
- Confident, empathetic, patient, and resilient approach.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively.
- Experience working with challenging behaviour (school or non-school settings considered).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) - essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
