Behaviour Support Assistant – SEMH Secondary School (Manchester)

Location: Manchester
Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Do you have the confidence and resilience to make a real difference in the lives of young people? We are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH Secondary School in Manchester. You will work with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional dysregulation. These pupils often display challenging behaviour, and your role will be crucial in helping them re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide targeted behaviour support to pupils in and out of the classroom.
  • Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions to promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Assist teachers in creating a safe, structured learning environment.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies tailored to individual needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Monitor and record behaviour incidents, reporting to senior staff as required.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Confident, empathetic, patient, and resilient approach.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively.
  • Experience working with challenging behaviour (school or non-school settings considered).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one) - essential.
