SEMH Teaching Assistant – Secondary School (Manchester Area)
Location: Manchester
Contract Type: Full-time / Long-term

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? We are looking for a resilient and empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary school in Manchester. You will be supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, and emotional dysregulation. These pupils often display challenging behaviour, and your role will be key in helping them re-engage with learning and develop positive coping strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored classroom support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Deliver 1:1 interventions to help students manage emotions and improve engagement.
- Assist teachers in creating a safe, structured learning environment.
- Implement behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviour.
- Support pupils in developing social skills and emotional resilience.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback to staff and parents.
Candidate Requirements:
- Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and build positive relationships.
- Experience working with challenging behaviour (school or non-school settings considered).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service – essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
