Primary Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate full time SEMH Primary Teacher to join our supportive team in Portsmouth as soon as possible. This role involves working with primary-aged pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may also have additional learning or behavioural challenges. The successful candidate will play a key role in creating a safe, structured, and nurturing environment that enables pupils to re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons that are tailored to pupils with SEMH needs.

• Create a positive, supportive classroom environment that promotes emotional regulation and wellbeing.

• Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans.

• Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff, and external professionals.

• Monitor and assess pupil progress, adapting teaching strategies where necessary.

• Build strong relationships with pupils, parents/carers, and the wider school community.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• Experience working with pupils with SEMH, behavioural needs, or additional learning needs.

• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.

• A patient, resilient, and nurturing approach to teaching.

• The ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
