Full-Time SEN Teacher
Teaching Personnel are seeking a compassionate, skilled and resilient Full-Time SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEN school in the Portsmouth area. This school supports pupils with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASC), communication and interaction need, sensory processing differences, global developmental delay, medical needs and severe learning difficulties (SLD). Pupils require highly personalised teaching and a calm, structured approach that helps them thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and assess highly differentiated lessons suited to individual EHCP outcomes.
- Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment with strong routines.
- Implement a wide range of communication strategies such as PECs, visual schedules or Makaton (training can be provided).
- Use positive behaviour support strategies tailored to each child’s emotional and sensory needs.
- Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate records in line with school policies.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and external agencies.
- Contribute to a positive school ethos where every child’s achievements are celebrated.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working within a SEND setting, or strong willingness to develop skills in this area.
- Understanding of strategies for supporting pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours.
- A patient, empathetic and resilient nature.
- Ability to differentiate planning for a wide range of abilities.
- Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
