Pastoral Teaching Assistant

SEMH School (Blackburn)

We are seeking a confident and resilient Pastoral Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Blackburn. This is a full-time, long-term position, working Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm.

About the Role:

  • Provide pastoral and emotional support to pupils with a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships to promote positive behaviour and engagement in learning.

  • Support teaching staff in creating a safe, structured, and inclusive environment.

  • Manage challenging behaviour effectively using de-escalation and restorative approaches.

  • Monitor pupil progress and contribute to behaviour and wellbeing plans.

About You:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH or challenging behaviour is essential.

  • Strong behaviour management and interpersonal skills.

  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people to achieve their potential.

Role Details:

  • Location: Blackburn

  • Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday

  • Pay: £13.74 – £14.50 per hour (dependent on experience)

  • Contract: Long-term supply, with potential for permanent placement

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
