Option 1: 9:00am – 2:30pm
Option 2: 10:00am – 3:30pm (flexible start available)
Full-Time (5 days per week) – Term-Time Only
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our alternative provision in St Albans. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people who may struggle in mainstream education and who thrives in a smaller, relationship-focused learning environment.
Our provision supports students who may face barriers to learning, including behavioural challenges, disengagement from school, or additional social and emotional needs. The successful candidate will play an important role in helping students re-engage with education by providing classroom support, mentoring, and positive encouragement.
Key Responsibilities

Support students during small-group and one-to-one learning sessions across core subjects and enrichment activities

Assist teachers in delivering structured learning activities and lesson plans

Build positive and trusting relationships with students to support engagement and wellbeing

Provide mentoring and pastoral support to help students overcome barriers to learning

Support behaviour management using calm, consistent, and supportive approaches

Help create a safe and inclusive learning environment

Monitor and record student progress, engagement, and wellbeing

Work collaboratively with teaching staff and other professionals to support individual student needs
About You
We are looking for someone who:

Has experience working with young people (schools, youth work, coaching, mentoring, or similar settings)

Is patient, resilient, and able to build strong relationships with students

Is confident supporting students with social, emotional, or behavioural needs
-
Can work flexibly to support different learning styles and abilities
-
Is organised, reliable, and committed to helping young people succeed
A formal teaching qualification is not required, but experience supporting young people and a genuine passion for helping them succeed is essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
