Job description

Teacher of English (up to A Level)

Maternity Cover – Full Time – 1 Year Fixed Term

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate English Teacher to join a specialist Post 16 setting.

This role involves teaching English up to A Level to students with a range of special educational needs, including Autism, SEMH, and associated social, emotional, and communication difficulties. Many students require a highly personalised, structured, and understanding approach to learning.

The Role

  • Deliver high-quality English teaching up to A Level, adapting content to meet individual needs
  • Plan and teach engaging lessons that support academic progress and emotional wellbeing
  • Work with small class sizes, allowing for tailored support and relationship-led teaching
  • Support students who may experience anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, or barriers to engagement
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to provide consistent, joined-up support
  • Maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Experience teaching English up to GCSE, with the ability to teach A Level
  • Experience working with SEN, particularly Autism and/or SEMH (essential)
  • A strong understanding of differentiated and adaptive teaching strategies
  • A calm, patient, and flexible approach to behaviour and learning
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students
  • Resilience and consistency in a specialist educational environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
