Job description
A thriving secondary school in Brent is seeking an enthusiastic Design & Technology Teacher who can also take on the leadership responsibility of Head of Food Technology. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire students through practical learning while leading and developing a successful Food Technology department.
The Role
The successful candidate will deliver engaging Design & Technology lessons across KS3 and KS4, with a particular focus on Food Technology, ensuring students develop both theoretical understanding and practical skills. As Head of Food Technology, you will lead the planning, delivery and development of the Food curriculum, ensuring high standards of teaching and learning across the department.
You will work closely with senior leaders and colleagues within the wider DT faculty to create a creative, innovative and well structured learning environment where students can develop independence, problem solving skills and a love for practical subjects.
Key Responsibilities
• Teach Design & Technology across KS3 and KS4, with a focus on Food Technology
• Lead and manage the Food Technology department, ensuring strong curriculum planning and delivery
• Plan engaging lessons that develop students’ practical skills, creativity and subject knowledge
• Monitor student progress and implement strategies to raise attainment
• Support students in developing confidence in practical cooking, nutrition and food science
• Manage food rooms, equipment and resources to maintain a safe and effective learning environment
• Contribute to the wider DT faculty and whole school initiatives
• Inspire students to pursue further study or careers in food, hospitality and nutrition
The Ideal Candidate
✔ Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
✔ Experience teaching Design & Technology or Food Technology at secondary level
✔ Strong subject knowledge in Food Technology, nutrition and practical cooking skills
✔ Ability to lead, organise and develop a subject area effectively
✔ Passion for practical learning and student engagement
✔ Strong classroom management and communication skills
