British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant – Primary Schools (East London)
Role: British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant

Contract: Full-time / Part-time
About the Role
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistants to support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils within primary school settings across East London. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access the curriculum, communicate effectively, and thrive both academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 or small group support using British Sign Language (BSL)
- Support pupils’ communication, learning, and emotional wellbeing
- Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
- Adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility
- Support inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment
Essential Requirements
- British Sign Language (BSL) qualification (minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred)
- Experience working with children, ideally within a primary school or SEN setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A caring, patient, and inclusive approach
- Enhanced DBS certificate (on the Update Service or willingness to apply)
Desirable
- Previous experience supporting deaf pupils
- Knowledge of SEN strategies and inclusive education
- Understanding of the primary school curriculum

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
