About the Role

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistants to support deaf and hearing-impaired pupils within primary school settings across East London. You will play a vital role in helping pupils access the curriculum, communicate effectively, and thrive both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 or small group support using British Sign Language (BSL)
• Support pupils’ communication, learning, and emotional wellbeing
• Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
• Adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility
• Support inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment

Essential Requirements

• British Sign Language (BSL) qualification (minimum Level 2; Level 3 preferred)
• Experience working with children, ideally within a primary school or SEN setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• A caring, patient, and inclusive approach
• Enhanced DBS certificate (on the Update Service or willingness to apply)

Desirable

• Previous experience supporting deaf pupils
• Knowledge of SEN strategies and inclusive education
• Understanding of the primary school curriculum

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
