Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join our team and work within SEMH secondary provisions in Rochdale. This is a rewarding role where you will help students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. You will be supporting students who have SEMH needs such as High anxiety, challenging behaviour, school avoidance and who struggle with emotional regulation.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement behaviour management strategies and use de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm and safe environment.
- Foster a nurturing, trauma-informed approach to build trust and positive relationships with students.
- Assist students in accessing education and engaging with learning activities.
- Liaise effectively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent support.
- Promote emotional regulation and resilience through active listening and tailored interventions.
Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience working with SEMH students in an educational or care setting.
- Skills: Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, UK Right to Work, and professional references covering the last 24 months.
- Knowledge: Understanding of trauma-informed practice and strategies for supporting mental health challenges.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
