Behaviour Support Assistant – Oldham
We are looking for a patient, proactive and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join specialist school and alternative provision settings across Oldham.
You will support children and young people with behavioural, emotional or social needs, encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide tailored 1:1 or small-group behaviour support using de-escalation and positive behaviour strategies.
• Build strong, supportive relationships that promote trust, emotional regulation and confidence.
• Assist in implementing behaviour plans, risk assessments and individualised interventions.
• Support pupils with SEMH, trauma, ASD, ADHD or challenging behaviour.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral teams.
• Encourage communication, resilience and engagement in school routines.
• Maintain accurate behaviour logs, safeguarding records and observations.
Essential Requirements
• Experience in SEN, behaviour support, youth work or mental health roles.
• A calm, consistent and resilient approach.
• Availability Monday–Friday during school hours.
• Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management and relational practice.
• Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred but Not Essential
• Training or experience with de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed practice or PBS.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Confidence adapting communication and behaviour support approaches.
Vetting & Compliance
• Two years of references.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (assistance available).
• Overseas checks if required.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
