Job description

About the Role:
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) unit in Hildenborough, Kent. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who require additional emotional and behavioural support to access education.

You will work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals to provide tailored support that promotes both academic progress and personal development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with ASD and SEMH needs
  • Implement personalised learning and behaviour support plans
  • Support students in managing emotional regulation and social interactions
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and parents/carers
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour
  • Encourage independence and resilience in learners

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with ASD and/or SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of autism and associated strategies (e.g. sensory support, structured routines)
  • Calm, patient, and empathetic approach
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and effectively
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
