Job description

A creative and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Christchurch is seeking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Art Teacher to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire students through visual arts and contribute to a school that values creativity, self-expression, and high-quality teaching.

The successful candidate will deliver engaging and imaginative Art lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, encouraging students to explore a wide range of artistic techniques, materials, and ideas. The role would suit both experienced Art teachers and confident Early Career Teachers who are keen to develop their practice within a supportive and collaborative department.

The Art Teacher will be responsible for planning creative schemes of work, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive studio environment where students feel confident to experiment and develop their own artistic voice. A commitment to inclusive teaching and high expectations for all learners is essential.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching Art across KS3 and KS4 in line with the national curriculum

  • Planning and delivering engaging, practical, and theory-based lessons

  • Encouraging creativity, independence, and critical thinking

  • Assessing, moderating, and tracking student progress

  • Maintaining a safe, organised, and inspiring art studio environment

  • Contributing to displays, exhibitions, and the wider creative life of the school

  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to share ideas and best practice

The school is seeking an Art Teacher who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification

  • Has strong subject knowledge and a passion for the visual arts

  • Is confident managing practical lessons and mixed-ability groups

  • Can motivate and inspire students of all abilities

  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with students and staff

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
