A teaching assistant
in an Uxbridge school is going for gold at the 2012 Olympics.
Kevin Sempers, a 24-year-old classroom assistant at Uxbridge High School, has already competed for Great Britain in the heptathlon and decathlon, and this year is hoping to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Mr Sempers told the Uxbridge Gazette that his experience in athletics has taught him that people learn in different ways, and that he hopes his dedication will encourage his pupils.
"I hope to be able to apply this knowledge in the classroom to help provide the right type of support for each individual student depending on their specific needs," he told the paper.
The classroom assistant graduated in sports science at Brunel University and said he trains six days a week for up to five hours a day, in between helping out his pupils.
Last year he was one of eight athletes selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the Combined Events International in Spain. He has also competed around Europe in Munich and Berne since ranking within the top 15 junior athletes in Europe.
