The Welsh government has announced new initial teacher training (ITT) initiatives for eligible students beginning postgraduate courses of further education (FE) next year.
It was revealed that grants of £5,000 will be awarded to those undertaking full-time, pre-service, postgraduate further education courses to teach subjects including engineering and mathematics.
Education minister Leighton Andrews said: "We are making PGCE (FE) ITT incentives available to target our highest recruitment priorities, including support for the teaching of literacy and numeracy.
"These incentives will mean that students deciding where to train as teachers on full-time PGCE (FE) ITT courses can make that choice knowing that studying in Wales offers similar incentive support as that in England.
He added that this will help to attract good quality students to train as FE teachers in Wales.
